Miguel Chaves
PhD in Sociology, especiality in Cultural Sociology, by Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH-UNL), also holds a degree in Sociology by the same faculty, and a masters degree in Social Sciences especiality in Culture and Social Change by Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa).
He teaches at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH-NOVA) and is a researcher at Centro Interdisciplinar de Ciências Sociais (CICS.NOVA), where he coordinates the work group “Citizenship, Work and Technology”. As a researcher, he has dedicated part of his work studying social exclusion, deviation and marginality, producing several texts about those issues, namely the book "Casal Ventoso: da Gandaia ao Narcotráfico". Presently he develops and coordinates research studies about the transition of higher education graduates to the labor market, which was also his PhD theme. This thesis was published by Imprensa de Ciências Sociais, with the title "Confrontos com o trabalho entre jovens advogados: as Novas Configurações da Inserção Profissional" [“Facing work among young lawyers: the new configurations of transition to labor market”].
His main scientific domains of interest are Sociology of Work, Cultural Sociology, Youth Sociology, Urban Sociology and Deviation Sociology, specifically labor market transitions, Youth and Transitions to Adulthood, Work, Life Styles and Consumption.
